TTMT #42 - Embracing My Inner Hobbit

Jul 12, 2012 20:14

I did it! 2 weeks in a row... even if I am late...

I keep talking about how my daughter wanted a backpack for field trips, but I fail to mention that this is NOT that actual backpack. This is actually the sample I made to make sure my plan would work. The plan was a big success. I made my daughter's bag the same way, but instead of cute owls, hers ( Read more... )

Monsoon season?!! Yikes! I'm glad that you're safe. But... yeah, humidity is ridiculous. I commiserate completely!

What a creative idea for the backpack! I love the fabric you used for the pocket - owls are perfect, always.

Also - I'm so, so glad that you're doing well. I think I must have missed the posts about your having surgery, but oh! It can be so scary and stressful. I hope that you're recovering and that you won't have to go in to hospital again any time soon O_O

There are drainage ditches throughout the city since we are surrounded by mountains and the mountains get the rain, that prevents any serious flooding in town, but the sudden heavy rains do cause flash flooding in the outlying areas... Despite the humidity "monsoon season" is the best time in the summer, because the temps go down a bit, and no rain smells better than desert rain...

You didn't miss much. It was arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder, so no hospital stay or anything. I can crochet now, and hope to be sewing soon, once my forward reach improves a bit more. And by the way I'm waving my arm around in the picture clearly I'm doing much better, lol. I do like to gesticulate don't I?

Yay 2 Jewells weeks in a row! You definitely do not look like a Hobbit. My hair (naturally tight, spirally, kinky curls) does the same thing, so I always have to keep it at least long enough to wrangle it into a ponytail. Again, you are not Hobbit-esque. And that blue shirt is fantastic on you. :D

What a great idea for the Summer Bust of Swag or Whatever swap! Love that fabric! Ripstop is incredibly hard to work with and that patch looks perfect.

I'm getting daily updates on the monsoon season in Arizona; my mum is right at the Chiricahua Mountains so she gets a similar monsoon. Lots of crazy light shows and rolling thunder, but no real rain action.

And congrats on staying on-time with the birthday blocks! I'm still waiting on one last block, but I had a great time doing this swap. A tiny bit stressful with the deadlines, but overall, worth it, I think. I hope you like the rest of the blocks that come your way. :)

*blushes* Thanks. I bought the top at Penneys before the surgery, because I needed stuff that buttons up the front and I didn't want to spend money on something I wouldn't normally wear.

I'm so glad I remembered this bag because I wasn't going to particpate if it meant buying a bag. Expensive no-travel summer has been expensive and piano lessons start next week, and they are more than I'd expected, but I really think they will be a Good Thing for Phebe.

The lightning is always gorgeous. the power outages notsomuch, but at least it usually comes back quickly.

I haven't decided if I'm going to join birthday blocks next year or not. I learned a lot, but the deadlines were rough with so many early birthdays bunched up together...

I think your hair looks great curly. Maybe it's my inner 80s girl that had perms every 2 months back in the day!

I'm so glad you found the bag and that it washed well. Woo!

Awesome happy accident with your skirt. I bet a tee at the top will be very comfy.

I don't think I have a black tee around that I can cut up at the moment, so I'm considering black satin blanket binding, because I do have an open pkg of that... still deciding. A tee would be really soft though.

I was surprised the nylon backpack part held up under washing. So yay!

Your monsoon hair amuses me. I went to Mexico in July once and it was SOOOO humid and my hair got so curly I couldn't get a comb through it. Up here I get the curls, too, but my hair is long enough it's not so noticeable and the weight of it keeps it from curling too much, except for one very stubborn curl just to the right of the part in my hair. So annoying.

What colour fabric did you use for the other block? (So mean taunting me with mine ;D) I'm really undecided about what colour to use for it.

My hair... meh. My sis was supposed to cut it a few days before my surgery, like SUPER short, but she cancelled, she wasn't feeling well. WE haven't been able to get together since, so now it's straight up frodo. I'm trying to decide if I should just leave it be and grow it out a bit or buzz it off again.

I did a nice purple... I liked the block ok, it wasn't too hard. I'm planning to mail on Thursday between getting my windshield replaced and Phebe's piano lesson.
