He was cute...way too old for her, but cute. From his expression, she guessed he was thinking the exact same thing, except the other way around. "My name is Buffy," she yelled, over the din of the chopper blades.
"John Sheppard," he yelled back, handing her a pair of what looked like earmuffs. She stared at it, puzzled, until she noticed the microphone.
“Thanks” she said, putting it on. “Have you been doing this long?” Buffy waved at the vast expanse of snow.
John smirked. “Too long,” he said. “Today is my last day. I’m moving on to another assignment.”
“Something nearer civilisation?”
“Not exactly…you?”
Buffy shrugged. “I’m meeting someone.”
“He got a name?”
“Sorry, classified,” she said, apologetically. Riley had been quite specific about that, she thought glumly.
“Ain’t it always,” John drawled. “Well, here we are, home sweet home.”
The chopper landed in a flurry of snow and Buffy eyed the small, huddled group of buildings doubtfully. She hoped she was doing the right thing.
“The mess is over that way, if you want to meet up afterwards."
Buffy tilted her head, and examined his face. ”I’ll think about” she said, grinning as she hopped out.
“Do that.”
