It was quiet, now.
He stood lightly, weight distributed evenly on the balls of his feet, chest moving rhythmically in slow, measured breaths.
There was no one alive to speak.
And after several long moments, he moved.
The stark silence was broken by his footsteps as he strode down the long hall, leaving the carnage behind, seeking out what he had come for.
His target: a thick steel door.
Impenetrable without a key.
He had the key.
The blood-stained metal was forced into the hole and twisted without mercy, allowing the door to swing inward and revealing the small form crumbled on the ground. The smell of blood, urine, sweat and vomit rushed out to meet him as he took a single step inside. A small whimper was heard, pitiful and frightened.
"John."
A long silence.
Slowly John Watson lifted his head. The fragmented emptiness of his blue eyes held a single, distant spark. His lips moved silently, evoking a name like a prayer. His body tensed with the effort, the desire, to move, but he couldn't.
That was alright.
He moved forward and knelt, lifting John easily and bringing him against the safety of his chest, cradling the smaller man comfortingly. He combed a hand through the bloody blond and grey hair as John shuddered.
"It's alright."
"Home," John rasped. "I want to go... please."
"Shh. We're going." He eased his coat off and swept it around John's shoulders, covering the damage that told a detailed story about his captors. Then he scooped John up as gently as possible, cold fury burning through him anew when John couldn't contain a soft cry.
"Sherlock..."
"I know."
When the police arrived the next morning, alerted by the owner, they found nothing to indicate what had happened there.
Only a select few ever knew the truth.
The detective had come for his blogger.
