Try not having Starbucks, THEN see if Starbucks counts as good. Just generally try living in Italy. Fantastic deserts, but have they got a clue how to make muffins or brownies or cookies? None whatsoever.

I WANT A BLUEBERRY MUFFIN, DAMMIT!

no brownies?? that's not right. but you can probably get really good coffee.... i really liked the cheese scone, so it counts as "good" to me.

Do you like black pepper? I have a fabulous recipe for cheddar pepper scones, and can give you some the next time I make them. (Or I can give you the recipe, if you want to try yourself--they're pretty easy.)

It's this recipe, from Epicurious. I first had them at firstfrost's house, and was very impressed at just how peppery they are.

I'm lazy, so I don't bother patting out the dough and cutting it--I just take handfuls and drop it on the pan. They're not as nicely shaped that way, but I think they're more interesting.

I've also found that I seem to end up putting a lot more yogurt in than the recipe calls for to get the dough to hold together, so just make sure that you have a lot of either that or buttermilk.
