I've had a big celebrity crush on Tony Bourdain for a while now. My husband thinks I'm crazy. But Bourdain really does have one of the best food-writing voices in existence. If you know him only through TV, you should really read one of his books.

how does his writing self compare to his tv self? because i really like his tv self.

It's hard for me to say, since the only TV self of his I've seen is on A Cook's Tour, which I would say compares quite favourably to his writing voice in the book of the same name (plus you get the behind-the-scenes stuff). If anything, he's more snarky in print than he is in front of the camera... and that's a good thing, IMHO.

oooh, excellent. i like his snark. and i always wonder about the behind-the-scenes stuff.... (on the show last night, when he was in japan, he went to some temple type place on a mountain with a waterfall, and you're supposed to stand under this freezing cold water to purify yourself or some such thing, and he did it on the condition that his cameraman/producer do it too. so the producer put on a little loincloth thing and took the camera into the waterfall with him. heh.)
