I want to travel, too. My parents are becoming the big travelers (they're just back from Israel and are leaving for Maryland on Wednesday), and I envy that freedom, to some extent.

I want to go back to Israel. Some day soon, hopefully.

And I want to go to Rome. Mostly because I want to go visiting at the Vatican (I've told you the kosher food story from Worldcon in 2004 in Boston, yeah?).

mabfan and I are going to Richmond, VA, in April and possibly to Los Angeles in August, so that's at least something.

my parents are the big travelers too! they retired and all of a sudden they take these long trips to interesting places.... *JEALOUS*

what kosher food story? the vatican was actually really cool, even tho it was WAY TOO FULL OF OTHER TOURISTS. we went the weekend of mother theresa's beatification, so there were all these tour groups of people wearing mother theresa baseball hats. o.O

...why are you going to la in AUGUST? is there a con?

Mm, yeah. My parents are retired (well, my mom's retired and my dad's kinda-retired), so they're free to travel whenever they want. It's a freedom I hope to have when I'm their age.

He lives and works at the Vatican, and we were talking to him about the fact that the Vatican is technically a separate country from Italy, and I was therefore wondering if there was some sort of passport procedure at the entry to the Vatican or what. Brother Guy replied that there's a card that people who work at ( ... )

I want to go back to venice. I want to go to Il Bistro de Venice and listen to the maitre'd do air guitar to deep purple. I want to ride in a gondola this time, and see San Giorgio Maggorie and the hospidale and go to Murano when I'm really in the mood to get on a boat. I want to go back to the brick gothic church we happened on when we were lost and stop by and visit the nice ladies at the Palazzo Abadessa and maybe have cake. I want to have to buy a warm weather top and not a scarf, and mostly I would just like to go somewhere with the brain and just be.

I'd even go back to Salem in March...

we should go in may. it's supposed to be nice in may. not as rainy. :D and we have to go to san michele next time, and santa maria della salute, and giudecca, and back to the brick church and we can climb the campanile in the piazza and see the ghetto in the daylight and eat at the place with the dessert gnocchi and pear tortellini, just eat appetizers and go somewhere else for dinner. and admire the shoes, and the palazzo, and maybe the ca d'oro won't be covered in scaffolding....

(even *i* don't want to go back to salem in march. *shiver* )
