Haven't read the rest. But Rome on HBO rocks if you're someone who has read and watched 'I Claudius' and like to see fictional stories superimposed on the background of the fall of the roman empire.

Since I do, I enjoyed our recent HBO preview and watched eps 1-3 with much, -much- squee.

Personally, I think it's cause I'm such an Octavius ho. And here it's Wee!Octavian as he grows up. And because my love sprung from 'I Claudius' I love seeing personal parallells of how they were both observers of the politics around them.

i've never seen i claudius. (and i don't get hbo, which makes not wanting to see rome a little easier. :> ) i really like the idea of fictional stories set during the fall of the empire, tho. and i kind of want to see rome, i'm just not dying to.

The roommate and I plan to ask someone to tape it for us since we've only gotten a glimpse due to an hbo channel preview.

I didn't think I was at all dying to see it. Especially since there seemed to be an over saturation. There was some 'Empire' something or other as recently and it didn't peak my interest at all.

But this, this does. So while before I wasn't dying to see it. Now I can definitely say I'm as much a fan of 'The Series: Rome' as I am of the time period itself :)

*is now off to make an Atia icon for roommate*

i started watching empire and it just didn't grab me either. maybe that's why i'm not keen on rome the series.... but with the history channel doing a whole week of roman specials i don't feel like i NEED to watch the fictionalized series. i like the straight-up historical stuff - they do a really good job with it. i mean, the engineering behind the coliseum and hadrian's wall is just fascinating.

altho the more you mention it, the more curious i get about the series.... maybe i could ask my parents to tape it for me....
