y’know, the army can’t still be so well-funded and well-trained, because if it was, people wouldn’t be able to chase it off so easily. unless the emperor in his wisdom decided the economic strain of importing island goods into the empire from so far away just wasn’t worth it.... or he could consolidate his armies and thus spend less money on them ( Read more... )

*nodnod* seems pretty solid from here, and still following the roman parallel very nicely, can't really go wrong there. the various sects--aspects being seperate for some people and not for others sorta reminds me of the norse culture--there were gods that represented certain things without necessarily being that thing, and then there were even more minor and obscure gods that changed according to region that represented very specific aspects of those things....it's all layer-y and fascinating.

i always loved the "as below so above" thing too, how much people's concepts of their deities reflect their society and the prevailing attitudes about life and the universe and everything.

*purrbounce!*

i like "as below, so above" better than the other way. i seriously think people create their gods in their own image.

I'm sure I've missed something here (cause I don't know what rantod is) but this is SO cool!

Is this for, like, a world you're creating? If so, the detail are great! I like the way the paganistic and romanistic styles of worship are used to help clarify the way the various people worship. As I said, very, very cool! :D

rantod is short for "roman au novel thing of doom" (except i run it into one word - romanaunovelthingofdoom) which will theoretically one day be my Adult Novel (tm) if i ever actually write it. it's about the end of an empire, basically, and what happens when said empire pulls back from all its outlying territories and provinces, and how the locals of those provinces cope. the province/territory in this case is based on roman britain, since the empire is based on rome. it's more historically-based than actually historical, which means mostly i get to take historical aspects of ancient roman history and culture and etc, and mess with them a little so it looks like i'm writing more of an original world than a strictly historical one. it's all worldbuilding so far with a couple of little snippets. no one has a name which makes it hard to write anything.
