Ahhh Dune - I didn't feel like we were in there for nearly three hours, and the visuals are so stunning. I wasn't quite as impacted by it as I was by the first one, but I think that was partly because in the first one the music score blew me away, and I didn't think they made quite as good use of the music cues this time.
I did read most of the books when I was younger, got lost in the later ones when the scope became so wide and geopolitical and sometimes very weird, but the first three were solid and engrossing and I'm loving how faithful the films have been so far.
it kind of felt long to me because so much kept happening, but denis villeneuve probably needed all that time to do justice to the story. and it looked SO GOOD, didn't it? like they actually filmed on actual sets in actual locations and not in front of a lot of green screens. the cinematography was really fantastic.
i know at some point frank herbert's son took over writing and i wonder if that's partly why the later books weren't as good. i kind of want them to film book 2 now, since the movie ends on not quite a cliffhanger but definitely the beginning of the next plotline and i want to know what happens.
I believe they are at least attempting part 3 - because Paul's story isn't finished yet. And the first tow were such a commercial success I can't see them not going for it.
