There is an excellent movie (well, most of it is excellent) running on Netflix as of July. A discovery in a cave at Rising Star South Africa looks to rewrite what we know of the abilities of an unknown species in the genus homo who predate homo sapiens and were alive in 250,000 BCE. They stumbled into what looks pretty definitively to be a VERY difficult to access cave series, and discovered what appears to be where the species buried their dead. A lot of complete skeletons once they were sorted, and even more groundbreaking, provocative evidence that they were burying their dead well over 200,000 years before evidence of us or Neanderthals were doing it. I was so interested that I researched it, and despite everything, it looks real. Which would mean that several of the things that we thought defined the emergence of homo sapiens are pushed way back. Oh, and there also seems to be evidence that the species carved art onto the walls. It might completely rewrite evolution and what it means to be human.
