we're all about the links and the poetry today.

in 1879 a botanist in michigan buried twenty bottles full of dirt and seeds, as part of a long-running experiment to see how long seeds could remain viable. it's still going.

Ooh I've read about that seed thing before- back when covid had interrupted collecting it I think. Glad they finally were able to get it; amazing that the seeds are still sprouting from it!

I too am curious about the paste sandwiches.

i'm pretty sure i've read about other long-time experiments, but not the seed one. i'm impressed some of the seeds are still viable, altho to be fair i think they're all weeds and sometimes weeds are, you know, indestructible. which doesn't make it any less cool.

apparently "paste" is meat paste. which, ew?
