“Dad?” Roisin called, peeking into the dining room. “Hey, Dad?” He wasn't in the parlor or the bedrooms either.

Fetch your father, her mother had said. Tell him his lunch is getting cold. Easier said than done, when he didn't seem to be in the house or the garden.

Now you have me wondering, why did you pick the Spanish Civil war? This made me think about the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Man, Maggie Smith was so good in that.

socialists? this is backstory/prep writing for nano, and i needed something to happen in roisin's life that wasn't necessarily something she did. i hit on "hey, she has a sister!" and because my nanonovel is set during the 30s, that apparently means the spanish civil war.

i never saw the prime of miss jean brodie but now i'm curious.

Oh I recommend the film - it's probably very dated now but Maggie Smith is seriously brilliant in it, and I defy you afterwards not to go round saying "my gurrrrrls" and "I am in my prrrrime" with that wonderful Scottish accent.

it is! kind of. roisin is the main character in my novel for nanowrimo this year, so this is like prep writing so i can figure her out some. i'm glad you like it!
