What I just finished reading:
the long thing for reading group, which had an epilogue in which everyone seemed to have gotten their shit together, gone on meds as necessary, and, uh, broken up with their partner. i did like how it ended, at least.

also two bitch planet trades (extraordinary machine and president bitch), which brings us up to the ( Read more... )

That menu was fascinating. I'm a bit confused why it's titled what americans ate in 1910 when printed on it is Dec 1917, but, whatever. I was curious so I plugged some of the dishes' prices into an inflation calculator and (using the 1917 date since the calculator I found only let you go as far back as 1913) and WOW some is expensive- that $4 club steak would be like spending $71.45 today!! The much more reasonably priced Yorkshire rarebit would be $8.93.

That article about what people wear to worship was fascinating, also very respectful.

yeah, i wondered about the year too. i guess whoever answered the question couldn't find (or didn't really look for) a menu from 1910. i'm amazed that the chicken is comparatively expensive, but yeah, some of those dishes ain't cheap! i wonder if the equivalent restaurant in a major train station in a smaller city would be cheaper.

I love Bitch Planet. It's disturbing in good ways and balances the storytelling with the homage really carefully. I haven't been to my comic shop in nearly a month, I need to get on that.

evidently issue 11 isn't out yet, so if you've been reading the single issues you haven't missed anything.

Your cookies look like slices of jam roly poly which has made me hungry in the middle of the night now. That'll teach me to try and catch up when it's past my bedtime! LOL

that happens to me too! other people's food posts, or anything about food online, or (even worse) something on the food channel just makes me want to eat, even if it's late and i'm not actually hungry. i feel like i should apologize, except now i want a cookie. sigh.

That Siberian photo project was fascinating. I'm amazed that people have survived for so long in such a cold, inhospitable place. I would think they would creep farther and farther South each year, until they find unfrozen land!

The optical illusion makeup was fascinating, though the insipid reader comments less so. :O

i'm amazed anyone would want to stay there! but people do. i guess you just learn how to survive it. and some of the folks in those pics looked very warm and comfy in their furs.

never read the comments! just admire the occasionally disconcerting makeup. :D
