i don't love having to read this long thing for writing group

Jun 29, 2017 00:40

What I just finished reading:
lord john and the brotherhood of the blade, which had a lot going on - including lord john's nice young man doing something spectacularly boneheaded - but had a fairly satisfying ending, and i enjoyed it.

What I am reading now:
a novella for writing group. >.< it's 104 pages and this is at least the third iteration ( Read more... )

little kids are the cutet, wednesday reading meme, izombie

they are! he's a supporting character in some of the outlander books, and i don't know why she decided to give him his own series, but she did.

This might sound a bit weird, but did you watch iZombie with the closed captioning on? Because (I only noticed it because of the cc) as it faded to black there was a bit of lighthearted audio stuff that I didn't hear happening at all that eased the tension a LOT. (If I remember correctly it said it was Ravi making some sort of growl noise then Liv admonishing him and then him laughing?)

i didn't watch with closed captioning, but i did catch the end, and yeah, ravi made a zombie noise and liv said something like "don't be a dick, ravi", and he laughed. which gives me hope that he might not start out undead next season. it wasn't very loud, tho.

We got a cute iZombie fill over at the Threesome comment-fic meme -

http://bleodswean.livejournal.com/324820.html

I have been in a ton of writing classes and groups and I cannot even BEGIN to imagine having to read an entire novella for a fellow writer....how did you guys come to agree to that?

we've (well, some of us have) already read the previous versions, and i guess the author wants to know how it hangs together if you read it all at once. usually we just get installments. she did ask if everyone was ok with it, and it's going to be the entire session - normally we discuss two people's pieces - and at least she submitted it like three and a half weeks in advance, to give us all time to read it. i think it's 32k, which makes it the length of a bigbang, and i can knock that out in a few hours if i don't have to critique it. but it is kind of a lot to ask us. we'll see how it goes when we finally get to talk about it.

i keep forgetting to see what's been filled at the meme, and if it's something i'd like! so i should go check that out.

Sometimes I do wish that LJ was like a threaded forum in which "bumps" would bring a post back up to the top....

I hope you discuss your writers group more. I would love to hear how the group feels that reading the novella in its entirety worked! At least...is it worth the BigBang time?

>>At least...is it worth the BigBang time? <<

ehh. almost all the main characters need therapy and meds, and none of them are interested in getting it, and i'm tired of reading about people letting their (legitimate!) brain problems run their lives. at least one of them is well aware of what her problem is and how her brain chemistry can fuck up her life, and yet... she's letting it. it's really not my thing.
