*confused look* I get the people 'supporting' sience thing, sort of, but why protest? Has Trump declared that science is liberal scaremongering and taken it off the curriculum or something?

it's a very anti-science administration. the cheeto tried to legislate that various sciencey organizations had to submit any studies or papers for governmental approval before they could be shared with the public. (presumably so republicans could bury any results they didn't like.) he also tried to muzzle the environmental protection agency, the federal drug administration, the us department of agriculture, nasa, the parks service, the forestry service, health and human services, i think the nat'l oceanic and atmospheric administration (they track hurricanes, among other things), and the nat'l institute of health. as a result we got a lot of rogue science-agency twitter accounts and park rangers, of all people, getting credit for leading the revolution. the head of the epa wants to dismantle the epa. the cheeto has claimed that climate change/global warming is a hoax perpetrated by the chinese. the administration (and the republican party) is full of a lot of science-dumb people who want the american public to be just as stupid ( ... )

I knew that Trump has been declaring climate change fictonal (though I thought he'd blamed the liberals rather the Chinese - so I guess to his mind that pretty much the same thing). I hadn't heard about all the other stuff, clearly the BBC didn't find that news-worthy. I'm guessing/hoping that the nations leading scientists are taking a public stance against him. ?!? But I can see that scientific evidence is kind of inconvinient if you're basing policies on wishful thingking and consider a tweet a fact. ;)

he walked a lot of it back because wow, backlash. the agencies he wanted to muzzle seemed to have a lot of fun trolling him and protesting his dumbshit policy.

I've had a lot of laughing-out-loud moments looking through pictures of science march signs. My favorite to date is "Science gives me a Hadron."
