fic: The Clockmaker

Jan 09, 2016 23:23

note: this was my holiday project for writing group. each person in the group contributed a plot point, and we had to incorporate each one of them in order. it was not my first or even second idea, and for that i blame dear-tiger. (for once something isn't wrenlet's fault!)

Snug in its blanket of snow, next to the frozen lake, the city sleeps. )

EEEEEEEEE \o/ Holy shit, that was so awesome! Because mechanical hearts! :D How much do I love to have planted the idea in your head? SO MUCH. The steampunk/magical realism of this thing was fantastic. And it's so appropriate for a Christmas story.

But but BUT! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LITTLE SILVER SCREW?? Who took it? O.o

i was thinking about your story, and the heart of the city, and driving trucks over the ice and snow, and then i had the beginning of a story! and i liked it better than my previous two ideas. so yes, this is your fault and you may feel free to take credit. :D

i don't know what happened to the little silver screw! no one took it, tho. it just... fell out and vanished. probably.

This was astonishing. Truly. The sense of...utterly pragmatic wonder, if that makes sense, strongly reminds me of Ursula Vernon's adult work, especially things like the Jackalope Wives. Beautifully written.

i kinda like "pragmatic wonder"! i think it makes sense. and while i've never read ursula's work (except millions of years ago when she was posting on elfwood), i know enough about her to be flattered. so, thank you. :D

(also, that is the cutest icon. philoslothical, hee.)

thank you. ^_^ i am happy-ending girl, even for random one-off stories for writing group. the only mistake was that nicola didn't make someone specific responsible for winding the little clock.

aaaaaand that reminds me i meant to spell his name with a k. >.< like nikola tesla.
