The first World Series was won by the Braves, though. :D (Yes, they were in Boston at the time. It's still relevant.)

actually according to mlb.com it was the americans. unless they became the braves before they moved.... (baseball name/city changes confuse the hell out of me. and i had to look it up because i figured you'd know braves history, and i had a moment of "wait, is mental floss WRONG??") but in any case, boston team. go boston. :D

Actually, sorry, I got my teams mixed up - late nights & wine are apparently not conducive to reading comprehension, who knew. It was the Red Sox, not the Braves, who won the first World Series. The Braves are the older organization, and they were the first team to win a World Series at Fenway (long story), but the Red Sox were the first winners of the WS in 1903.

(The Red Sox were the Boston Americans until like 1910 or something. The Braves had about a billion different names, but they always came back to the Braves.)
