I dug out somebody's car! :D Because I hated everything and it seemed that everyone in NYC was an asshole and I had no idea if there was some ridiculous law I was breaking about where you can pile snow. So I figured, if I get people in trouble by piling snow incorrectly outside their yard, maybe they won't be so mad if I also dig out their car. And I just wanted to be nice, unlike the rest of this city. So hey, some other New England noob was probably worried about shoveling snow incorrectly and dug out your car so that you wouldn't be mad :D

that is the weirdest reason to be nice and helpful to someone, because you hate everything and everybody. but hey, you saved someone some back-breaking labor! and i bet they appreciated it. if new york is anything like boston, you can't shovel snow into the street but anywhere else is fair game. (altho it's kind of rude to shovel it onto the sidewalk.)

i'm pretty sure it was the landlady's grandson - her son has a bad knee - because it was just my car and the girl on the second floor's car, and we're technically not supposed to be parked in the driveway. so whoever did it probably did so to help us move our cars. which is ok! i feel weird being in the driveway anyway.

residents are supposed to shovel the sidewalks, altho i think the city might do it for public buildings. they're pretty good with the roads, altho how many plows you get totally depends on how major a street you live on. side streets are, uh, idiosyncratically plowed, let's put it that way. but you end up with slushy snow more than ice.
