o my flist, earlier today i was all itchy with wanting to write a massive fantasy epic. i walked home and the feeling passed. i have not-so-epic bigbang and nanowrimo to think about, altho to be honest the only thing i've done for nano is give the friar a name. (the heretic always calls him "friar". but his fellow friars - and the other ( Read more... )

x-men, the friar and the heretic, nanowrimo, feed me seymour, nature's creatures have been busy, outer space, tom hardy, hair, ww1, bigbang 2015

:D It cracks me up to no end that your characters are still nameless! Has it been a year or two now? :D Those are some name-resistant characters. Also, research! Have fun.

Those underground cities are so cool!

sometimes i really suck at names. >.< but when the story only involves two people, and they don't refer to each other by name, it kind of doesn't matter. research? what research? :D

i love all the tunnels and shit left over from ww1. i didn't realize they were so extensive, tho. or that there were carvings! where was that article when i was writing about ww1 for nano?

Oh, I was worried you'd given up on the heredic/friar story. So glad to hear that there are still plans... \o/

I've got a think for accents and dialects. Loved you meme and was tempted to do it, but felt unqualified since I'm not a native speaker. Also, more importantly tech!fail. /o\

i have not given up the friar and the heretic! i just don't know the actual plot. >.< or the heretic's name.

you totally should've done the accent meme! non-native accents totally count. tech!fail is a whole other issue, tho.

Sometimes you just need some fried chicken^^ Also, I agree with one of the commenters on the picture: Disney Princess Magneto! =D
I think I've heard of Cheerwine? There was something at home, a canned sorta-fruit-punch, we drank it all the time, but I don't know if they still make it ("home" in this case meaning New Orleans; we're still finding things that the rest of the country doesn't have or hasn't heard of unless they have been there, even after all this time!)
As for your poor heretic and monk: How about something beginning with 'R'? Even possibly the same name, or variations of the same name, so they can snap at people who mix their names up? In weirder queries: why are there no more warrior priests?! I think the Pope should be the best fighter of them all--now THAT would be a choosing ceremony for you! (you could also drop that into that epic fantasy, too. With guinea pigs, because even the meanest villain needs something/someone to talk to, right? And what if one of the heroes *also* has a guinea pig friend ( ... )

i ended up getting chicken wings and kung pao chicken from the chinese place down the street. it totally satisfied the urge.

i thought cheerwine was texan - mostly because the first time i had it was at the texas state fair - but apparently it's made in north carolina. it's kind of like cherry soda but it's not excessively cherry-y. i've only ever seen it in one place in greater boston, so i don't know how national it is. i love regional brands, tho, as frustrating as it is to not be able to find them when you want them.

guinea pig friends! i love that. like guinea pig sidekicks. altho they'll probably end up as pets for random heretic kids.... and yeah, why aren't there warrior priests any more? i always kinda liked the idea of holy men (and holy women) with swords. swashbuckling for god. :D

mmm, granola with craisins. hello! :D

Totally late but food-related: I remembered the name of the drink from home: Delaware Punch! Now I can look it up! Yay!^^ How's by you?

it was called delaware punch and it's local to new orleans? that doesn't make a lot of sense. but hey, now you remember!

it's cold by me. >.< and i don't want to go to work tomorrow.

If you go with an R name, Raymond of Toulouse was always being accused of Cathar leanings, and Raymond is a period-appropriate name. That being said, I don't care of you call them Fred and Ethel as long as you write it and I get to read it.

raymond might work.... i've been looking at languedoc names from kate monk's onomastikon, because the story's set in the most unresearched-southern-france equivalent ever, but i'm always open to other names. and never fear, it'll be publicly posted. whether it's any good or not is a whole other thing.

I noticed that the local Krogers have started carrying Cheerwine in single bottles, and I always think of you when I see it. :D I'm assuming you liked it if you had another.

Texas State Fair is about to start again--this Friday to be exact. I'm trying to decide if I want to go or not. I'm trying to get three days off at work this month and use one to go out there during the week, but I may use those days to get the hell out of Dodge instead. :|

there's a burger chain out here called tasty burger (and i always hear samuel l jackson from pulp fiction in my head when i walk by - "that IS a tasty burger!") and they have it in bottles. it's not overly cherry-y and it's not super carbonated and it's just weird enough that i like it. the fact that it reminds me of the texas state fair is a bonus. :D

you totally want to go, by the way. i mean, food onna stick! FRIED BUTTER, DUDE. altho getting out of town is never a bad option....
