i didn't leave the house until after six today, and that was only to go to the grocery store. and it was a nice day! so to make up for sitting on my butt all day (altho i did talk to tamalinn and my parents, and i did the dishes and watered the plants and took a shower) i walked down to the square at nine, worked on my entry for therealljidol, and walked home. i ( Read more... )

One of the companies my husband works with is doing an Original Pronunciation show in the spring! We are very excited. :)

the fact that this is even something people can research to any accuracy is super cool to me. more so when productions use it!

Showed this to my husband and he confirmed that his group is actually working with those particular guys -- for sure the son Ben Crystal is coming to work with them, but possibly the dad as well. We are super excited to say the least to be doing the Merchant of Venice -- maybe the very first OP production? We have our fingers crossed husband gets Shylock. *_*

we are neither rich nor famous but we do follow our passions :D

These guys are associated with the Globe... Husband worked with a girl who was there for a year, just like Sebastian Stan was... :) but not sure we are one degree from SebStan YET :P .... when we went to England this summer we saw two shows at the Globe and it was really a great experience. We saw Julius Caesar as groundlings and Titus Andronicus from the middle level balcony. Very different and both instructive in their own way. :D

i didn't know sebstan did a year at the globe! (occasionally i fail at obsessive fangirl.) was it when he was in college? i have a friend who lives in london who's been to a couple shows there and i think she usually stands in the pit for the experience. i don't know if i could stand for a whole play but it sounds like the best way to see shakespeare. an op production, groundlings armed with tomatoes in case they don't like the show.... :D

re Jolene: Upside of rural living - everybody knows everything about everybody. (Downside of rural living - everybody knows everything about everybody!)

re OP: Loved that link, great insight into historic linguistics. Thank You!

i'm guessing crosshaven just isn't that big a place. which is apparently really helpful for getting people their mail.

language research is fascinating. i'm continually impressed that people can figure out how pronunciation might have changed over time, so we can fairly accurately reproduce what people sounded like four hundred years ago.

Thats why it's so neat that they actually explaine in the video how it's done! I was puzzling how you could figure it out in a time where no recordings exist...

Crosshaven has 2000 people, so it's not huge, but it's still quite large for such a vaguely addressed letter to arrive. I guess the Irish REALLY know their pubs and proprietors thereoff...
