tonight i went out for chinese food with my sister and one of her friends and the friend's boyfriend (who i don't think is especially stupid but man, sometimes he comes across as so dumb in conversation), and tomorrow we're going to see the hobbit: the desolation of smaug and order in chinese, which means after tomorrow i will have had chinese food ( Read more... )

Wow! You have honestly just described my dream vacation. I've driven cross-country a few times and was always really sorry to have to stop at the final destination because there is always so much more beautiful country to see.

Also, I am dying for Chinese food. Can't wait for tomorrow!

we used to take family road trips when i was wee - sometimes my parents wanted to drive to our final destination - we went skiing in colorado once and drove and just missed a tornado somewhere in kansas O.O - and we drove from tennessee to arizona for my cousin's bat mitzvah and i can't believe we did that - but the ones i remember were comparatively short. i think you need a month to really see stuff.

We always pronounced Smaug the way you did, and were very puzzled by the trailers etc! Merry Christmas!!

i swear i had a moment of "wait, you're pronouncing it wrong!" the first time i saw the trailer. >.< and then i felt stupid because OF COURSE the trailer is going to be right, and i've been saying it wrong in my head this whole time.

that sounds like a fantastic trip - I'd love to do something similar myself ;) (step one, learn to drive...)

you could also go with someone who drives and who doesn't mind that you don't.... you get all the fun of a road trip without having to actually watch the road. :D
