i am once again a day behind. >.< last night i made snowball cookies for my parents' hanukah party which is today, and i should've left them in the oven another minute or so. they're not raw in the middle or anything, but i pulled them out a little too soon. if i was supposed to bake them to well-done, say, or medium well, they're more medium. Thank you :D Your degree sounds fascinating and completely nuts. I had no idea so many women were actually writing in the Middle Ages but I'm glad to know they could do that. What the hell, medieval lit, it's a weird world I didn't know existed. It still boggles my mind that there is enough left that you can get a degree in this stuff (and be unemployed, which is another story, of course). That was super cool :D Have fun at your party!

i'm not sure a lot of women were writing in the middle ages! altho i'm not sure a lot of men were either. and it is a weird world, but an interesting one. (and frustrating, unless you really like allegory.) i'm not sorry i didn't stay to get a phd, tho - there are waaaay more liberal arts grads than there are decent jobs for them. who knows what i'd be doing now. i'm glad you enjoyed my babble. :D

Considering that I was an English major, that's good! I recognize most of the titles you mentioned, though we didn't get into very much of the women mystics.

I had no idea you were into medieval lit! Most of the works you mentioned I'm somewhat familiar with through the one course I took in grad school a few years back. I agree, the women mystics, especially demoniacs like poor Christina, are extremely compelling. Romance of the Rose disturbed me greatly, but I had a good time doing a project of some sort on it. My teacher had extremely high standards, so I wound up doing some of my best work in that class. Grueling, but a good memory, and now I kind of want to reread some stuff. Thanks!

in retrospect i think i might have been thinking of catherine of siena, who was apparently only hermity in the early years of her mystic career. but she was all about herself as the bride of christ and she did come across as kind of nuts. i don't even remember what i thought of the romance of the rose altho i'm pretty sure i wasn't super fond of all the allegory. go, reread!
