I've read a book in the past which got by without names for any of its characters :D It was written in the first person and gave everyone titles, like professor, granddaughter, librarian (friar, heretic, you know). I've been meaning to discuss this one with you via email, but I'm buried under a mount of homework. (Which I should be doing right now, and it's 3 am already).

but that reminds me too much of fanfics with a lot of epithets - the blond, the taller man, the younger woman, etc. plus the friar can't refer to all his fellow friars as brother friar 1, brother friar 2, and brother friar 3. (as opposed to, like, brother john, brother paul, brother george, and brother ringo.) (ahem.)

dude! go do your homework!

Oh my god, the taller man and the blonde woman. Vomit. Don't do it. (Although brother friar 1 and brother friar 2 are pretty amusing. Also, brother Ringo \o/ How exotic!)

*goes back to homework*

I made pumpkin bread and forgot the sugar one time, and it was kind of bad. We managed to eat some of it by buttering it and then sprinkling it heavily with cinnamon sugar, but it was challenge, LOL. Also, I always grate my fingers. :-P

i cut one in half and toasted it and then put some butter and sugar on it, and it was good! next time i'll remember to actually bake them with sugar, tho.

heh, get yourself some sweetened condensed milk, some powdered sugar and a skewer. Skewer the muffins, pour the milk over the holes you made w/ the skewer and shake on a dusting of powdered sugar. VOILA!

will make for messy too-mois muffins but who craes? or make a triffle. triffles hide all ills.

There are historical examples of heretic movements and communities who were protected by noblemen in positions of power, often because the noblemen liked the idea of lessening the Church's power by supporting the people who criticized it. It also depends on what your people are doing. If they really are just having orgies and making cheese on their farm, it's possible that few outside their local area would notice or care. But if they're going around preaching that the Church is a corrupt blight on humanity and gathering great numbers of followers who agreed, well, those are the heretics that the Church cared about stopping.

In other words, you should really write this story because I want to read it!

that's kind of what i was thinking, that they'd have to be living on some nobleman's land, or at least under his protection. i'm not quite sure what they've been doing to attract the inquisitors' attention, but they'd have to be doing something. clandestine preaching? speaking out against church hypocrisy and corruption? (sitting on land that some bishop desperately wants?) i don't know. obviously somebody did something, because the heretic and the friar meet in the first place because the heretic's been thrown in jail to a. renounce his heresy, b. give up his fellow heretics, and/or c. burn at the stake.

i want to write it! altho so far the only thing i really want to write is the friar having a crisis....
