I like big old country houses, and boys who work on cars, and bestfriendsalmostbrothers falling in love, and horses! If I were to write that story, I'd set it somewhere in the part of upstate New York where my grandma lived, which is all farms and former farms, and every time we drove up there, you could really count the things that had changed between the last visit and this one because the turnover and the speed of "progress" is so much slower than in a city. But you might be thinking someplace flatter, IDK.

i was kind of vaguely thinking midwest, but north nowhere, upstate new york might work too. (my knowledge of upstate kind of starts and ends with greater gloversville, which is where my mom is from and is near schenectady. it's been in decline since my mom was born. it's kind of sad.) i envision wide open spaces and a feeling like these two boys in their big house are the only people around for miles and miles, to kind of drive home their emotional dependence on each other. i don't know, man. it's kind of like a story without a home.

(one good jared deserves another. :D )

North Dakota? South Dakota? I have some friends from there and they pretty much describe it the way you are picturing it. A few years ago there were phenomenal pictures in National Geographic of abandoned towns out there, and your description of the boys' environment made me think of that. And winter in the Dakotas provides built in potential plot angst!

me too! altho there's something really sad about an abandoned house. altho this one isn't abandoned, it's just kind of falling apart.

>>i think your plot bunny is on the right track;) <<

aw, thank you! in a perfect world i'll come up with some names and actually write it!

I immediately thought of the house my best friend moved to when she moved away with her family to outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. It had huge expanses around it (no horse, sadly) and hills in the distance that you could see the train cutting through at certain parts of the day.

It was also right behind a Church graveyard and church which was interesting/creepy.

I like your boys dependent and needing to grow up fast and ready to take on the world. Mechanics are always a good idea!

i now really like the idea of a little country cemetery nearby. kind of creepy, but not necessarily. possibly i just like the old graves with the little metal fences around them....

i am totally stuck on mechanics! i had another idea for an original fic with an actor and a mechanic. there's just something about a sweaty mechanically inclined boy who works with his hands.

the boys are, uh, kind of maybe a little bit, you know, erotically codependent. :D
