This was the first episode of CM I've watched all the way through all season and I was so confused, because I thought Prentiss had accidentally stumbled into the plot of Nikita and nobody noticed.
...And now I want somebody to write Prentiss/Nikita fic, because, yowza.
(I would totally go watch the original Solaris with Reid. I bet he's the kind of guy who talks all the way through movies, so it would be hilarious no matter what.)
i've never seen nikita but from what i've heard about it, yeah, that sounds about right. i kept wanting to yell "this is not a jason bourne movie!" at the tv. >.<
(and i'm totally with you on spencer and solaris. five hours of russian scifi movie with the bau's resident scifi nerd? oh yes. :D )
I also just watched it today, and I was so scared the whole time that Prentiss was going to get killed. All I know is what you know (or less!) and I really hope they don't kill her. I'm sad enough that we're losing the character from the show because I like her a lot.
she has like seventeen episodes in her contract, i think, so she still has a few more to go. i honestly don't know how the ptb are going to write her out, but killing her off seems excessive and the way they're going about it is un-cm-like so i hope i'm wrong and that's not what will happen to her. on the other hand, i'm absolutely prepared for this to be my last season watching if it is.
she might be afraid to ask, i don't know. or she's not telling anyone because she doesn't want to put them in danger by getting them involved - she told morgan not to ask her what was going on, and i guessed that was so she wouldn't have to tell him and he'd be safe.
I don't have any idea what's going to happen but I think that this is an excuse for Prentiss to disappear for a few episodes (so it meets the contractual obligation) and allows for her to come back. IDK maybe I'm wrong.
i totally agree that this is how they're going to write her out to stick to the contract, but i'm worried "write her out" means "kill her off", and the whole interpol subplot doesn't fit the show. it's not an international thriller type tv show. they don't - and never did - deal with shadowy killers escaping from international jails and sending coded messages and forcing agents from paris to meet prentiss and tell her their lives are in danger. y'know?
From what I understand, the PTB have offered her season regular status again next year, for her contract renewal...but. She's apparently also shooting a pilot or something, so they say that they're writing the season in a way they can either write Paget out OR bring her back next year, depending on whether she re-signs or not. *sighs*
so if she decides not to come back, what, they'll kill prentiss off? that's just mean. i mean, they didn't kill elle when lola glaudini left, and they didn't kill gideon altho they no doubt wanted to. it seems kind of like punishment - "renew your contract so we can pretend we didn't dick you around, or we'll kill your character".
i do wonder why they'd make her a regular again, tho.... like, did they catch a lot of flak for the way they treated her and aj? does she have a really good agent? did she sit them down and say look, you people suck, i deserve to be treated better than this?
That's certainly what it sounded like, though it was presented more as "we can write her off if she doesn't come back". They didn't explicitly say "kill". But that's what I took from it. And, at this point, any warm and fuzzies I had about the CM production team are pretty far gone, so it's kind of unsurprising.
I think that the addition of Rachel Nichols hasn't sparked like they wanted it to and they underestimated how their demographics would be affected by losing AJ and Paget...but that's 100% speculation on my part. I definitely HOPE she has an amazing agent and she's sticking it to them.
Shemar Moore & Thomas Gibson's contracts are also out for negotiation right now. It'll be interesting if CBS flubs this.
i admit i got the idea for a "we're going to kill prentiss off" storyline from twitter. it's a vague hunch more than anything else, i mean no one's come out and explicitly said "yeah, this is the episode where prentiss bites it", and even if paget doesn't come back next year - and i totally wouldn't blame her - i really hope i'm wrong.
(and i think part of the problem with rachel nichols is that her character doesn't have a reason to be there. they shoehorned her in and i don't think it's necessarily rachel's fault that seaver hasn't gelled with the rest of the team.)
and whatever they ultimately do to prentiss, her current interpol subplot is so ridiculous i'd be losing faith in the writers and the ptb anyway.
