True Blood really is that good. I've only seen Dexter of the comparison list you give, but it stands up to that. Definitely one I recommend watching! (as is Dexter, for that matter)

i've seen the first two seasons of true blood but haven't been interested enough in s3 (despite the promise of eric's nekkid ass...), but i haven't seen most of the best drama nominations, so i don't know how it rates against them. i would've given the nod to fnl instead, but this is probably why i'm not on the emmy nominating committee. :D

True Blood is really only good for the nakedness of the really hot actors - I've watched a few episodes and there is no way on God's Green Earth that it even deserves to even be in the same sentence as Sons of Anarchy and Friday Night Lights, let alone the other shows that were nominated. I have no idea if the nominating committee were just blinded by all of the rock hard abs and nice tits, but that's what had to have happened. *g*

On the other hand, Connie & Kyle finally getting some love was AWESOME.

i've seen s1 and s2 but wasn't interested enough to watch s3 - i think at this point it's just not my thing - but yeah, i kind of got the impression one of the reasons it got love was because there are a lot of hot nekkid people. and i give it props for giving us nekkid guybutt, but it's still not the same class of show as fnl

My general thoughts? The fact that True Blood was nominated for Best Series pretty much sums up my opinion of the Emmys in general (that not being a good thing). That Men of a Certain Age wasn't? Equally sums up how unrelated to quality they've become as far as I'm concerned.

Beyond that, that Justified wasn't nominated for anything, let alone for best series, best actor and best supporting actor (deserved 2 noms there)? Actually invalidates the Emmys retroactively from birth, with only the Breaking Bad and Nurse Jackie nominations to stand as a wee voice of reason that might argue for their salvation.

In specific? I'm glad to see Nurse Jackie and Edie on the list ... they both deserve it, as does Toni Collette. I hope Jim Parsons actually GETS it this time. And I'm glad NPH got a nod for his guest shot on Glee. And while I don't think she'll get it, nice to Sharon Gless on the list for her work in Burn Notice, too. Andre Braugher being nominated for Men of a Certain Age ALMOST makes me think there might be a few people in the ( ... )

Oh ... although I do love Kyle being nominated. Don't watch FNL, but have never seen Kyle give a less-than-spectacular performance of ANY character, so I can't imagine his nomination in any category qualifying as anything other than a well-deserved acknowledgement of a highly under-appreciated actor.

to be honest, at first i thought justified might have come out too late to be nominated. but then i found all the random categories on the emmy.com site, and the fact it was nominated for best theme music (which will never not make me giggle, because who even has opening credits long enough for music any more? altho it is really good theme music), and the reactions i've read have a lot of "what do you mean no timothy olyphant? no walt goggins? what is WRONG with you people??" so now i'm all annoyed. i didn't like boyd as a person but i LOVED him as raylan's antagonist, and walt was just fantastic and should really have gotten a nomination. and the writing! the writing is so good! i dunno, maybe next year? we can but hope.

and the complete and total snub of soa is criminal as far as i'm concerned ( ... )

I'm amused that I was all \o/!!! over Kyle and Connie and then when I went to actually look at the noms that \o/!!! was totally eclipsed by the \o/ !11!1!!1 of ARCHIE MOTHERFUCKING PANJABI getting a nod for her work on The Good Wife.

Hell yes, the actress of my favorite character on network TV just got some RECOGNITION. WOOT.

That being said, the fact that Sons of Anarchy was, once again, totally fucking ignored kind of makes me want to throw shit. I'd say with confidence that S2 of SoA was better than all of the nominated shows (although I've never actually seen Breaking Bad, so I could be wrong!) and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love The Good Wife, so.

And hell to the yes about Katey Sagal being the best actress currently working in television. I'm constantly in awe of that woman.

Oh, man, I was thrilled to PIECES that Archie was nominated. Kalinda is the most badass chick on TV and I love her so much that I'm ready to devote a shrine to her honor.

And, y'know, pretty much yes to everything else you said, especially the Sons of Anarchy snubs. It's tragic that Katey wasn't nominated, man.

i've never seen the good wife, but i've seen a lot of love for archie panjabi (and kalinda :D ) so, you know, woot! :D aside from the MASSIVE SNUB to soa (and justified!), there's some really nice "oh thank god, FINALLY" recognition of some significant talent in the emmys this year. i mean, coach and mrs coach!

i really like breaking bad but it is VERY hard to watch because horrible shit just keeps happening. but if you read it as a character study of an average guy's descent into hardassery and hell - which is at bottom what it is - it's phenomenal.
