i saw houses, chatted with a stranger, and saw a movie

went to two open houses today - one condo and one actual house - and the condo had quite possibly one of the worst new kitchens i've ever seen. (the whole (big!) house had been renovated into condos, so this was kind of new construction in the sense that the kitchen wasn't at all original to the building, and they could've done whatever they ( Read more... )

My Mom and sister would do this.. Open House shopping while never meaning to buy, just wanting to look. I suffer from house envy if I do things like that.

Hmm, maybe I should start doing that because it sounds like fun. I have no desire to go look at new or newish houses out in the burbs, but looking at older and renovated places around me would be awesome.

That place with the awful kitchen sounds like it would be perfect for somebody who never cooks and in fact spends all of their time at work. ;)

i did kind of wonder if the kitchen was intended for non-cooks with very little kitchenware or dishes, the kind of people who eat out a lot or eat mostly frozen or ready-made meals. not a lot of room for pots and pans and bakeware and serving dishes and normal-use plates and glasses and silverware and food. just stupidly designed.

sloping ceilings in bathrooms do not equal a good thing! My sis rented a house with a bathroom like that and it's a pain!

That dark room sign made me laugh! hee!

Also, I wanted to say, "Jump Oscar! Jump!" after reading about his wee prostetic legs!

that's the problem with putting in a bathroom under the roof - chances are good you'll end up with a sloping ceiling in the shower which can render the shower kind of useless. and when you're asking a shit-ton of money for a condo, you should really offer better bathrooms.

well, you should offer better bathrooms even when you're not asking a shit-ton of money for a place. it's just... isn't there a better way to lay out a bathroom?

oscar did jump! and the vet was all "he's not supposed to be doing that yet...." kitty in a hurry, hee.

that dark room sign is pretty awesome :D

(Also - nosy house wandering! If open houses were a thing in the UK, I totally would do that.)

Are you looking to move? Or are you just looking for fun?
