i think out of gas was a better episode than war stories, myself, but that's why i'm not a tv reviewer for ew. :D and honestly, for a show that only got half a season, it still put four episodes on that list, which is pretty impressive. (i don't remember our mrs reynolds, so i can't say whether or not it deserved to be ranked that highly. and i would've added the message, but i think that was one of the ones that never actually made it on tv the first time around.)

i wonder if joss works well with others, and if there is anyone he can work with who will push him and do well the stuff he's not good at. altho i think once more with feeling was a self-indulgent episode, and that actually turned out well.

I'm sure you've heard it, but, Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse are both worth checking out. Dollhouse, unfortunately, makes you sit through the network-demanded 6 standalone episodes before you REALLY get to the good stuff, but it does indeed get good, and as both lists said, the unaired episode is fantastic.

i heard pretty uniformly good things about dr horrible but the premise of dollhouse squicks me too much for me to want to watch it, and in fact i didn't read a lot of glowing reaction posts during s1. i was happy to know it got better as the season progressed, tho.

Gotta say, I sat down and watched the three 20 minute eps of Dr. Horrible one evening, and it was awesome. And oh, so very very Joss.

There was a lot of setup for Dollhouse - but if you get past the first six eps (which Joss factored into his design from the outset), the cascade of events that result are worth the investment.
