eight days of good things, day eight - architectural squee

on the eighth day, after god had had a nice and well-deserved rest, he looked around at his creations and was pleased. and then he realized that while he'd created people, he hadn't created comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, weatherproof shelter. you can only sleep on the ground under the trees for so long before you get tired of grass in your ( Read more... )

Thing I tripped over today that you have reminded me of: Telegraph bloger inflicting pain on the language with 'starchitects' and People In Comments ON A Newspaper Site making me want to commit carnage.

"starchitects". *facepalm* also some of those commenters fail to realize that we have no idea what's going to be considered classic architecture in a hundred years. the mayoral building (the testicle! HEEE) and the gherkin and the lloyds building might very well survive as stellar examples of early 21st century architecture, and in 150 years londoners might very well be complaining that architects aren't designing anything as nice and clean and classical as norman foster's buildings.

besides, designing all your new buildings in the same styles as all your old buildings leads to stagnant architecture. i'm as big a fan of sir christopher wren as the next person, but i don't want an entire city to look like st paul's.

The Sarah Winchester House is supposedly the inspiration behind the Stephen King teleplay "Rose Red".

stata center, i am SO looking at you. Personally, I would be more inclined to "WTF?" Simmons Hall bka "The Sponge". The inside is like a concrete cave with blond wood accents.

yay, flw. i really wish i had taken pics of my friend's parent's house all the times i stayed there, but sadly it's one of those things y'never think to do at the time. 'specially when you're a teen and those few years were going to last forever. =p
