Shepard's justification was that it was firing on an alternative Atlantis... but even so, you would think that he would have seen enough Star Treks to consider that this Atlantis could have been the evile Mirror Universe versions or something.

That was surely one of the stupider decisions he's made in a long line of them....

but did it not occur to him that the dedaulus would have to blow the alien ship up before it ran out of steam, otherwise the ship might, you know, retaliate? i get the justification, but still.

Yeah, I half-expected it to be replicator-Atlantis or something. But then they gave us that hilarious Sheppard-Sheppard conversation and all is forgiven :D
