Chapter Twenty-Four
Yuki looked out of the window, a contented smile gracing her lips as she watched the morning sun peek out from among the gray clouds.
She turned her back to the window, leaning against the sill and observed the four boys, now unmasked sitting around her table. Inoo and
Yuto were pouring over her notes while Daiki was asleep with his head on the table, a pout on his lips.
Keito was cleaning his sword.
“When will you guys leave for the hunt?” she asked interestedly.
Inoo gave a distracted hum without even removing his gaze from the notes and Keito, feeling awkward at the poignant silence that followed, answered instead.
“As soon as possible I guess,” he answered politely. His eyes widened as he spotted her looking at Inoo with slight disappointment in her eyes. She shuffled to the table to pick up the plates, Keito getting to his feet immediately to help her.
“Sorry about Inoo-chan, he has been slightly disturbed lately, he was really hoping to find his family and after coming all this way…,”
“It’s okay, I understand,” Yuki replied quietly. Keito wasn’t shallow. He knew it wasn’t ‘okay’ at all.
Suddenly Yuki jumped.
“Shoot, I totally forgot about that brat, you guys make yourselves at home…without touching anything unnecessary or opening any drawers or closets or wandering into other rooms of this house, and I’ll be right back,”
Keito, surprised at first nodded diligently as he watched the girl dash out through the front door.
“Should you not be so cold to her? Isn’t she is your best friend?” Keito asked suddenly making Yuto look up from his reading, surprised.
Inoo hummed again. That was all. Keito leaned against the counter, arms crossed upon his chest.
“It’s not her fault your family isn’t here and you have to continue searching for them,” Keito said again and Yuto’s jaw dropped at the directness of the older boy’s statement. He quickly busied himself with the notes again as Inoo looked up, not wanting to seem eager in participating in this conversation.
“I know Keito, but being here, in this house, around her, makes me realize how much I’ve missed home and how I can never have my childhood back again,” he replied frowning, staring at the wall up ahead. Daiki shifted in his sleep, mumbling something about fresh biscuits and chocolate sauce.
“So you’re going to give her the cold shoulder? Do you remember how happy she was when she first realized who you were last night?”
“She freaked me out,” Daiki mumbled, eyes still closed making Yuto jump so bad he nearly fell off his chair.
“Mou Daichan, if you’re awake don’t pretend like you’re not,” he whined. Daiki stretched, wiping the side of his mouth before staring bleary eyed at Kei.
“If we look at it in one way, and considering how close you two were, I mean that girl used to protect you from bullies for goodness sake you weirdo, doesn’t that make her a part of your family?”
“Daichan scores!” Yuto squeaked in a small voice not averting his gaze from the scrolls. Inoo got to his feet.
“I need some paper and a brush and ink,” he mumbled quietly, turning slightly red. He didn’t realize Takagi-san had blabbered about his childhood to them to this extent.
“Honestly, you were a wimp,” Daiki teased, smirking.
“Remind me to feed that man to that demon,” Inoo grumbled shuffling over to a certain drawer and pulling it open.
“Hey, she said not to…,”
“Oh shut up you Mr Goody-two-shoes, I need paper,” Inoo snapped picking up a random scroll from a collection of them in that drawer. Keito scowled slightly.
However as he opened it up and saw that it was a letter addressed to him, the colour drained from his face.
Yuto ran around panicking as Inoo continued reading one letter after the other, littering the kitchen counter with unfurled papers. Daiki went back to sleeping as Keito decided to join Yuto, albeit in a much more composed manner.
Sure enough when Yuki returned and saw her letters open and a smirking Kei standing next to them, she shrieked. Her voice rattled the land.

Maya watched with awe. There was no other way to describe it. She was a fighter herself, and had a couple of barracks under her watch, but never in her life had she ever come across such a fighter.
“Graceful isn’t he?” Nagaryuu smiled as they watched him flex his strong arms as he swung his sword into the air, taking down four enemies at once. He did a back flip and disarmed a Shadow Soldier, using the soldier’s blade together with his own to vanquish the attackers from both sides.
“How is my army coming along?” he asked.
“Well sir, we have the Shadow army, the riders and the human soldiers we’ve gathered all well prepared and on stand-by,”
“Good, now we wait for the other side to make the first move, and then my powerful new general will lead my forces to victory,” he replied with a satisfied smirk. Maya nodded.
“But sir, I don’t think Yasutsuna would just send his warriors like that,”
“No, he won’t send those children without first letting the emperor’s army come after us. He’ll do his bit with style. But it’ll be fun, watching his face fall when my Akira vanquishes each and every one of his little students,”
Maya nodded her head in understanding.
“What about that girl?”
“The princess is far more than she appears as well Maya, you’re dislike for her presence has weakened your sense of judgment. Since you
could not monitor her progress well, I just let her interaction with Akira…I mean Shoon-kun do the trick, and it worked didn’t it?” he added
with a slight shift in his position as Siren entered the arena with a spear.
Maya looked embarrassed as she nodded her head quickly.
“Sir,”
Nagaryuu looked to the side as a human soldier came his way and saluted.
“A young boy was witnessed leaving Yasutsuna’s Academy,”
“Really?”
“Could he be one of them sir?” Maya asked with a sudden burst of curiosity.
“If he is, then I have got another great plan brewing up in here,” he said smiling and poking the side of his head.
“Let’s invite him to our humble abode…what do you say?”
Maya’s eyes widened as she understood the implications of his words.
“I’ll get on it sir,” she replied confidently.

Yamapi reeled backwards to avoid a swishing blade. He flinched as he felt his legs sag with exhaustion. They had been dueling for more
than an hour.
“Tired senpai?”
Yamapi frowned slightly at the girl in front of him, her sword imbued with a steely glow, and pulled his lips up into a charming smile.
“No way,” he replied energetically and steadied his stance. She nodded and followed suit.
“Oii, Pi!”
Both duelers turned their attention onto the figure running towards them.
“Toma senpai?”
“What’s up dude?” Yamapi said giving the flustered man a sharp slap on the back, making him flinch.
“Trouble, we just got a message from Ryutaro, Hikaru and Yabu are badly wounded,”
Surprised, Yamapi quickly regained his composure.
“Let’s leave immediately,” he said and Toma nodded anxiously.
“We’ll continue after I come back, don’t forget!” he said turning to Sakura who stared back surprised.
“Come on,” Toma grumbled half-dragging the other who was constantly waving at the gaping teacher. She closed her eyes and said a small prayer for their safe return.
As soon as the sound of galloping horses died down, Sakura turned on her heels and made her way to the room Yamada and Chinen shared to look for the boy. They would need to get the clinic ready.
“Yamada-kun, we have to…,”
The room was neat, extra neat. While Chinen’s futon lay in its place, Yamada’s was rolled up and tucked away neatly in a corner. She
scanned the room quickly and frowned as she found none of his belongings.
“Yabai!”
Kaori was in the clinic, restocking the medicine cabinet with Taiyou chatting animatedly near her. The door slid open forcefully, causing
Taiyou to tumble off the stool he was on.
“Yasutsuna-san,”
“For goodness sake Sakura, call me Kaori,”
“Gomen Kaori, it’s just, I can’t find Yamada anywhere,”
Kaori looked at her confused, Taiyou got to his feet immediately.
“Did you ask the older boys?” she asked anxiously.
“They left after receiving an SOS from Ryutaro,”
Kaori frowned. Taiyou looked extremely troubled.
“Do you think, we should go look for him in the forest?” Sakura suggested.
“Well, I guess, we have to find him and bring him back if he’s there, it’s dangerous without the warriors,” Taiyou said firmly as the others nodded.
“Iie, there’s no need, he’s gone home,”
All three figures turned sharply at the unfamiliar voice, Sakura drawing her blade and standing protectively in front of the other two immediately.
“Dare?” Taiyou asked in an offensive tone.
The woman seemed to emit a soft glow as she stood underneath the sunlight pouring in from an open window. She had on a serene smile.
“I’m his teacher, and my student has to decided to terminate his services here, in order to return to his family,”
Sakura and Taiyou looked at each other confused before turning their gaze back onto the woman.
“Listen, I don’t know who you are, but these are restricted grounds and…Kaori?”
Sakura gaped in surprise as Kaori brushed past her and stood in front of the woman, staring at her as if in a daze.
“Kaori-chan?” Taiyou voiced concerned. Kaori dropped the roll of bandages she was holding as a single drop of tear escaped her eye. She was staring at the woman in complete disbelief.
Her voice was soft, almost cracking but the one word that she spoke was heard by all in the room.
“Mom?”

Note: Sorry for the late update, i tried to fit in a few things in one chapter but i revised it twice, hopefully its not too crowded. By the way, when Daiki is dreaming about biscuits and sauce...this has a very tiny significance, something for fun.
Yes, now you know, there is more than one Yasutsuna :P
Sorry for this randomness, Sakura and Yuki, hope you guys liked it. And everybody, thanx for following the story so far...and for the care and encouragement...you guys are great!!
