This chapter focuses on Ryutaro and the new OC...but the next which will be posted up very soon goes back to JUMP and I promise the Yuto-police issue will see resolution soon as we need to pick up the pace...I guess.
Chapter Eleven - Prisoner
Ryutaro heaved a breath of relief as they finally came to a stop underneath an old willow. He backed into it and plopped down onto the soft ground. Looking up, he gaped as he realized, the leaves of the tree were a pale scarlet.
Hayato seemed to be bustling around the clearing, gathering twigs in his arms. He seemed so serious in his task that Ryutaro almost wanted to laugh out loud. He didn’t though. The last thing he would want to do was annoy his savior.
He diverted his gaze to the path they had trespassed to reach this promontory. It was already night but he could see rows and columns of warehouses lined up in perfect symmetry. He could even make out the smoke still rising from their previous location of battle. The spotlights in the vicinity indicated that their enemies were still hot on their pursuit.
Hayato had said that they wouldn't follow them out of the barricaded area and into this forest immediately. He hadn’t questioned further. He was curious of course, but he had reckoned that the explanation might be out of his comprehension anyway and so had dropped the subject.
He watched as Hayato created a fire from his collection of twigs and in its dim light scowled as he realized that the climbing over the wire fence had dealt some damage to his previously well-maintained hands. He discovered to his horror that were not just dirty but also bore multiple cuts.
“Manager-san is going to slaughter me,” he groaned and reached for the small bottle of moisturizer in his pocket. Rubbing the sweet
smelling liquid between his palms he froze as he spotted Hayato gaping at him.
“What is that?” Hayato asked curiously.
Ryutaro finished applying it and then beckoned Hayato towards him. Hayato looked slightly taken aback but then moved towards the other boy cautiously, not removing his eyes from the bottle.
“Take off your gloves,” Ryutaro said simply.
“Eh? Nande?”
Ryutaro ruffled his own hair impatiently.
“It’s not poison,” he grunted pulling the other’s gloves off him. Hayato stared with wide eyes as Ryutaro smeared a bit on each of his palm.
“Now rub them together and spread it all over your hands like I did,”
Hayato did as was told. Ryutaro couldn’t help but laugh at the contorted face of the other boy as he did so.
“What is wrong with you?” he asked still laughing.
“It’s….slimy,” Hayato whined.
Ryutaro leaned back against the tree trunk and watched Hayato continue rubbing the liquid all over his hands with severe concentration.
After he was done, he held up his hands and smiled.
“It smells so nice!”
Ryutaro stretched and yawned but froze as Hayato continued;
“It almost smells like my sister!”
Ignoring the grinning boy Ryutaro crawled over to the fire and sat cross legged before it.
“You have a sister Hayato-kun?” he asked leisurely.
“Yup,” Hayato said enthusiastically almost whizzing to where the other was sitting.
“That’s what’s written in my profile back at the headquarters anyway,”
Ryutaro, again chose to ignore the ‘profile’ and the ‘headquarters’ but stared at the boy quizzically.
“You’ve never met her? How do you know what she smells like then?”
“Oh, I’ve met her, just don’t remember her that well…but she doesn’t know I’m still alive,”
“Oh…how come?”
“Well, according to the files, I officially died of Leukemia when I was 7 years old,”
Ryutaro stared. What in the world was this?
“How old are you now?”
“15, again, as stated in my profile,”
“Who…who are you Hayato-kun?”
Hayato sighed. He stretched and fell gently on his back, arms folded behind his head.
“I grew up not knowing my family name, because I’ve only been addressed as Hayato for as long as I can remember. I don’t really remember my childhood except for how my mom and my sister smelled like but I do remember how my dad looked like. It’s like I was really just born 11 years ago and was raised by people who looked after me in shifts. I’ve learned all that I know from the computer databases and encyclopedias…and I’ve only had one friend in my entire life…Alice.”
“Alice?”
“Yes, she hates me because she finds me immature but she was always paired with me from the beginning so I think she’s pretty used to me by now.”
“Were you…,” Ryutaro began rather fearfully as he was afraid the next question might offend him.
“Were you an experiment?”
Hayato looked at him, slightly confused.
“You mean like Yamada-kun?”
Ryutaro gasped. Hayato turned away, there was a hint of sadness in his voice.
“I really have nothing to do with any such thing,”
“I…I just don’t know how to clear this confusion in my head…you saved my life Hayato-kun, that’s why I don’t want to ask anything that you may be uncomfortable with explaining,”
“It’s alright, and no, I’m not an experiment…I’m just really good at jumps,”
It took a while for Ryutaro to understand the implication of the boy’s words but when it did, he returned the other’s smile. Hayato then reached into his pocket and flung Ryutaro’s phone back to him. Delighted at first, he scowled as he realized that it was out of battery. He sighed.
“So, why are you helping me?” he asked bluntly.
“Well, cause I didn’t like just sitting there and feeling worthless. I’m really no use to them…and I have no idea why they are keeping me here,”
'So, he’s a prisoner.'
“Who are they?”
“The Quicksilver Organization. Now what they are, I have no idea. I told you, I never had the same person looking after me growing up and they never told me anything. Hiroshi-san…I knew him because he used to let me in his office to play games on his computer, it was his computer that I hacked and discovered profiles…my own…Alice’s and your group’s.”
“So, these people…know about our abilities,”
“Yeah, but it’s vague…the information…I think they are still in the stage of collecting data,”
“So….you’re a hacker?”
“I guess you can say that,”
“Sugoi…,”
Hayato smiled a little more shyly.
“So…now what?” Ryutaro asked bringing his legs closer to his chest and resting his head upon it.
“Well, I’ve memorized the map of this area and we can go as far as the main highway on foot…,”
“No I mean, once we’re back in Tokyo,”
Hayato sat up and looked at him. He had that serious look on again.
“The reason I have a vague memory of my family is because of what was written in the databases, somehow…in Tokyo….I’ll find out more about them and maybe, I’ll start remembering things again,”
“I see….yeah, good idea!”
“And I think, my sister…she might be in trouble,”
“Why?”
“Alice was mocking me, a habit of hers, but she accidentally let something slip,”
“What?”
“She said, ‘you should be more careful you know, the only reason you’re still alive is because they still need that obnoxious woman’ and I have been thinking hard about it, I mean what other ‘woman’ would be associated with me but my sister…it’s just a guess but…”
“They’re keeping you prisoner to blackmail you’re sister?”
“I’m guessing that’s the case,”
“Yosh, just tell me her name…or your last name and we’ll search every family in Japan until we find yours!” Ryutaro exclaimed enthusiastically. Hayato’s face lightened up.
“Really? You would do that for me?” he asked grinning. Ryutaro nodded.
“Now, tell me your dad’s name, that’ll be a start,”
Hayato sat up, equally excited. He closed his eyes, as if recalling something and then his face brightened up as he did.
“Alright, I remember, according to the records…my father’s name is Dr. Miyano Hiroki.”
