Fortune and Men's Eyes (19a/?)novembersmithJanuary 1 2012, 00:39:33 UTC
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! This one’s dedicated to all the readers, to everyone who left such wonderful, encouraging comments. Thank you so much for sticking with me, and I hope you enjoy this next installment. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to get this fic and my TSN Big Bang finished, so hopefully you will see more soon. ♥
As always, thanks to the beta of my heart, brimtoast, who has the best couch in the world to camp out and write on. I would get literally nothing accomplished without you, best beloved. And thanks also to my cheerleader/beta/darling, ellot, who was vastly helpful and encouraging at all times. &youguys

"Sean Parker," Mark said, raising his eyebrows and leaning in slightly, "is interested in The Facebook." He leaned back, waiting.
"Shit," Dustin squeaked, bouncing to his feet and knocking over a stack of Mountain Dew cans. He wasn’t supposed to stop monitoring the network for any reason, not until they were sure the latest code they’d pushed through wasn’t going to cause a lag or, god fucking forbid, a crash, but Mark, under the circumstances, would allow this temporary dereliction of post. "Holy shit, are you serious? How? Why? What? And how?"
"Christy knows him somehow," Eduardo said, standing against the mantle in an effortlessly graceful way, the kind of pose Mark had always thought was something scripted in movies and not something that happened in real life. "Mark seems to think this is a good thing."
"It's a great thing, Wardo," Mark assured him, rummaging in the fridge for the fancy microbrew Eduardo kept bringing by, or maybe it was one of the Davis. For all Mark knew it was Portuguese beer fairies, but the apartment was

By the time they were done actually showering, it was already 7:49. Mark stood indecisively in front of his closet, which was now at least a quarter-full with carefully hung suits and ties and mysterious other clothing accessories. His hair was up in a turban and he was otherwise entirely naked, which was probably pretty unsexy, but whatever, Eduardo’d seen him be unsexy before

“He’s not a god, Mark,” Eduardo said, and Mark frowned at him until he visibly smoothed out his face. “Thirty minutes late for a dinner is excessive.”
“I’m late all the time,” Mark pointed out, and Eduardo shot him a look beneath his lashes that made Mark tug at his collar and smile down at his empty plate.
“That’s different,” Eduardo said, a hot undertone to his voice, and Christy put her hand on his shoulder, turning him around, towards her. Mark thought, calmly, I could stab her with my fork, but then was distracted by what she said next.
“I think Wardo’s jealous.”
“I’m not jealous!” Eduardo protested immediately, looking about as taken-aback and disconcerted as Mark had ever seen him in public. “I’m a little nervous, maybe. Why would I be jealous?”
“Why would you be jealous or nervous?” Mark asked, confused, but Christy talked over him

“Now, you don’t have anything in front of you. Let me,” Sean said, and plates and martini glasses appeared like magic. Eduardo tended to prefer quieter locales on the occasions he took Mark and the rest of the dorm mates out; Mark hadn’t seen anyone act quite like this before. It was - and he hated to use the word, even in his own head, but it kind of fit - dazzling. Like Sean could remake the world around him.
“Christy’s told me all about you,” Sean said to Mark, leaning across the table. “I just had to meet you. You’re an impressive guy, Mark.”
Mark smiled, temporarily verklempt - it was Sean Parker, and he didn’t want to fuck this up. He had a history for offending people, but tonight, he was going to do his damnedest not to

“Oh, I don’t know,” Mark said, and Eduardo finally looked up, his brow wrinkling faintly. “I seem to remember quite a few stories involving late night ventures

Eduardo started to speak, frostily civil, but Mark interjected over it, trying to make Sean understand - he’d been in a different situation, with different people in power. It wasn’t like that, now. “It was lucky, for The Facebook. Eduardo’s great

Okay, this was really intriguing, because seeing how everything is just slightly shifted by Mark being more aware of what's going on and where he stands with Eduardo and everything is just fascinating. And, ugh, Sean, why are you the way you are?
But seriously, I love how everything is tweaked and shifted so wonderfully. Like, even though it's so close to canon, just the little changes have made me all, omg what's going to happen!

I just got into this fandom literally this week (watched the film on Christmas, and then HAD to read a shitton of fic) and I am so hooked on this story! I love this take on the dinner with Sean. I can't wait to read more!

AGH, the ending. so ominous. *bites fingernails*
loved this whole twist on the Sean Parker meeting.. Mark still being starstruck at first, but now since he's with Eduardo in this 'verse and so can tell and cares that he's upset and realizes what a douche Sean is and how he seems to want Eduardo out.
