This explains a lot of his attraction to Mark. Whenever Mark demonstrates how superiorly smart he is, Eduardo gets all hot and bothered. Mark knows this too.
(also, completely optional - anything filling the first part would be so very awesome, so please don't feel restrained by this addendum - second idea:
post-movie: When forced to mingle with his peers, Mark's social circles include a ton of extremely smart and talented people. Cue Eduardo dating a lot of said people and jealous!Mark who wants him back. )
