I've been a Unitarian Universalist since I was nineteen. I was married by a UU minister, I plan on raising my children in a UU church, and in the end, I plan to be buried as a UU. I saw the news via rivkat. It's so awful and I just can't understand it. I'm saying a prayer for them tonight.

Wow.

This was the first I've heard of it since I don't have TV and rarely listen to the radio news.

Targeted for being liberals. It's come to this.

One interesting thing to note: Whenever shootings happen in states where there are strict gun laws there is a hue and cry that if everyone had guns then this just would not happen. Or if it did then the gunman would be taken out in swift fashion by all the armed victims of the attack. Here we had a gunman in a state with relatively lax gun laws go into a place where there were few (or possibly no) guns. And still he was taken down simply by the force of determined action. More or less peacefully it seems. I noticed he had his right arm in a sling and a few cuts on his face but that was it.

I'm very sorry that this shooting happened, but the courage of the folks at that UU church is amazing.

Yes, I think it's especially telling since they are saying he went in there expecting to be shot.

My friend grew up UU and told me about the shootings. It's terrible.
