I love old recipe/menu books

I like afternoon teas. I like afternoon teas so much that my wife and I regularly go to an Afternoon Tea in different cities whenever we travel. I'm also curious about old menu/recipe books (like from the late 1800's to early 1900's). Sometimes I find absolute gems like the old church cookbook from the 1910's where every desert recipes contained ( Read more... )

So happy to see you still here! jaysons_lady August 2 2019, 06:50:39 UTC
First time I've been on in ages, I was worried the last of my LJ friends would have disappeared!

So glad to see you have not vanished!

I also love an afternoon tea, even though I don't actually like black tea. I like white tea and some green tea, and herbal tea, but not black. The food that goes with the tea on the other hand? YUM. I've been getting Tea Time magazine for over a year now. I really need to try out more of the recipes but it is so hard to find decent heavy cream around here, and so many of the recipes call for it.

I'm more active on Dreamwidth, but cross posting to LJ now. Also, I'm very active on Tumblr (which is, strangely enough, beginning to go through it's own slow death spiral). But I'm still around!

I'm the exact opposite when it comes to tea. I love black tea, but tend to overbrew white and green tea because I will make a cup and then forget about it. Oops?

Yeah, there's no real substitute for heavy cream. Which is a shame. Because doing recipes is fun, even when they don't always turn out.

I really want to start trying out some of the old recipes in books I found. Some of them are just so weird sounding that I want to make them just to see if they are edible. Some day...

You might like this one YouTube channel that tells how to make Revolutionary era recipes then. It's "Townsends" fun to watch.

I love Townsends. I watch the channel quite a bit. I started watching it to see how they made a clay oven and never stopped. My favorite is the cooking episodes.
