Europe Week 1: Spain-Peñiscola

Aug 02, 2009 22:29

Looking back, the day we arrived in Peñiscola was one of the worst of the trip (now that we are back and can see it in total). It had taken us all day to get to the timeshare, so we ended up checking in around 6pm. We were staying a full week at a European timeshare property that is associated with the US company that my parents have ownership in. ( Read more... )

Oooooh, a Templar castle? YAY!

Bummer about the food. But yay for being able to cook for yourself! Fresh baguette, mm, you're making me hungry :)

The castle was freaking awesome. Mind bending huge, and majestic at the top of the cliff. :-) Discovering the museum at the bottom of the steep, dark staircase was way cool. It was deserted and creepy and perfect. The kids got all spooked at the torture exhibits, though. Hard to describe how humans can be so awful to each other to an 8yr old.

As well it should be. It should be hard to describe that to a *grownup*.

*sigh* Should be.

*hugs*

Yeah, Spain cuisine is not necessarily for everyone. It's not really for me, either. Italy, on the other hand ... yum! Looking forward to hearing more!
Very sorry about the accomodation problem. That, also, comes as no surprise to me. When I was 18, 19, 20, I had holidays in Mallorca almost every year. Back then, I didn't mind the nonexistent luxury or service. These days, even though I'd love to go back, I just *know* we'd have to book a *hugely* expensive hotel just to get the kind of standard we have gotten used to, in "normal" hotels in the US or so ... which is why we haven't booked a holiday there, so far.
Ah, young age *g*

What brought you to Mallorca so often? Just a great vacation spot for teens? I am so on the same wavelength with you about the expected standard now! My folks took us across the country multiple times as kids, staying in Motel 6 and Super 8's (*low* end motel chains), and now I stay so much in the upper end chains when traveling for work, that I obviously can't adjust very well when posed with ye old crawling insects and crappy air conditioning!

It is a good vacation spot for young people in Europe. Lots of party going on there, and ... you can get a package deal (flight and accomodation) really cheap, so ... when you are young and don't have a lot of money but want to have a sun/beach/swim/tan/party holiday, it's the place to go ;-)
But I just would not deal well anymore with that "standard".
The Rome apartment website is awesome! Such good places available. If we finally manage to go to Rome for a few days at some point, we might book there.

Dad & I both feel so badly about your horrible experience in the timeshare unit in Spain. We really hope you'll be refunded the $200...that's the vert least they should do. Live and learn, honey...as they say. Dad & I don't plan to book an RCI unit in Spain any time soon!

It's all good, Ma...not your fault whatsoever. And, it makes for great stories and great memories. :-) Made the nice accommodations that much nicer!
