Weeeeeeeeell, Kali is a complex goddess, who is commonly, unfairly misrepresented in Western culture.

Kali's an extremely popular goddess in Hinduism. I think it's her link to death and destruction (popularized by a majority of art and statuary Westerners are familiar with), which is only a part of her nature as a goddess, is what perpetuates the idea she's a negative or inherently "evil" force. There are a few very powerful and nasty evil demons which would be more likely suspects for such shenanigans before Kali.

Just putting some fact out there for the masses. :)
