I believe the correct response to this post is: "Is it September 18th yet?"

Please stop making my heart hurt. I don't know that I can deal with seeing Terminator!Sam again. Ass-kicker Extraordinaire, yes. Mr. Roboto? No. *shakes fist at Kripke*

Seriously, that was great. I'm with Whimsy...is it September 18th yet?!?!

I too choose September 18 as the best answer ::grins::

As for which pov or tense works best for any particular genre, I don't think there is one correct answer. It is more of a "preference" thing. There are, however conventions. Like you pointed out, most romances are in third person, most hard boiled mysteries are in first person. Then some authors break out of that mold and it may or may not work for them.

My personal preference is either one or multiple pov, third person. I find that first person stories are "slow" in pacing, and they annoy me. Most of the time, I won't read them. I also don't like present tense because it almost sounds like a kid or teenager talking (not that I hate kids or anything like that). I prefer to see present tense in scripts.

Despite the foregoing I have seen first person work, and present tense work - so no hard and fast rules or answers.

Is it September 18 yet, dammit?
