Bodge commented on my
Pre-Episode discussion post at 09:04 p.m. (before the episode aired!) with this:Tricksters do what they do - because they do it. Trickster said he liked the Winchesters. Trickster will protect them the way he can. Also Trickster has a need to bring down people who are 'high and mighty' so by looping Sam - he can do both (protect the Winchesters AND take Sam down a little)
i got a text when she was done watching: i so called it. now, i hadn't gotten there yet, but i knew she was right.
i was prepared for the time loop, so i actually wrote down all the ways Dean died, and by the time Sam said he was on his 100th Tuesday, we'd seen 8 times on-screen. then he spotted the Trickster - and woke up again without Dean dying. huh.
Then we met up with the Trickster, who gave Sam his Wednesday. and Dean dying - without Sam waking up again. raise your hand if you wrote a fic about Sam going on after Dean died/"died"? *raises hand*
Sam went on - he looked for the Trickster, took some jobs, and looked some more. he never returned Bobby's calls - unless it was about the Trickster. the Trickster said he needed to teach Sam a lesson, and then he put it all back. but Sam remembered. "Only the traveler remembers all the possibilities..."
But the question remains: WHY did the Trickster do this? WHY? Because he CAN. he's a God. again, Bodge and i were talking about this, and she said that while Gods create life and cause death, it has no personal meaning to them. they don't die; they don't "get it." This Trickster likes playing with his Winchester toys.
like i tell my kids, i don't always understand why the bad guys do the things they do. they're they bad guys, that's what bad guys do. why does the Trickster do what he does? 'cause he's the Trickster, that's what they're supposed to do.
one thing
gigglingkat reminded me of: The Trickster tells Sam that Dean is his weakness. which is so totally true, and it reminded me of a S1 episode - Shadow - where they realised that John couldn't go with them - that they were John's weakness.
i've got one more thing - i'm actually puzzled as to why was this ep chnaged to run this week instead of next? i'd heard somewhere that this gave us a sorta cliff-hanger ending, and next week was a more "suitable" mid-season finale. knowing what i know about next week's, that's the one to be a more likely a cliff-hanger. also remember, this was originally episode 12. so we KNOW that they're going to get out of next week's episode alive - because it was originally episode 11. personally, i think they should have left the order as it was.
BUT - the promo looks like another fun one! kinda reminded me of Night of the Living Dead, a la Demons. hee!
