Dick van Dyke? chimney sweeps? heee! we just watched Mary Poppins the other night, too! *giggles*
aww... it's Dean that wants a christmas! and now that we know why, and why Sam's all grinchy? *smishes the boys so hard*
i love the flashbacks!! hubby remarked that little!Dean really did look like Dean! and freckles too!
and the carols! *heee* well... it makes sense that they don't know the words to the carols...like they grew up singing them every year, right?
the wreaths were made of meadowsweet: *geek!girl comes out here* Google gave me "Searches related to meadowsweet:
st. john's wort and
valerian root" - both are used in herbal healing.
i found an article on
Purple Sage Botanicals that had something very intersting to say about meadowsweet:Meadowsweet was one of the three herbs held most sacred to the Druids (Vervain and Water-mint being the other two). It was one of the fifty ingredients in a drink called 'Save' in Chaucer's 'Knight's Tale', where it was called Medwort or Meadwort. It was also a popular Elizabethan strewing herb. The name Ulmaria is given in allusion to the resemblance of its leaves to those of the elm (Ulmus). In 1838 the Italian Rafaele Piria first produced salicylic acid from the flowerbuds of meadowsweet and from willow bark (Salix alba). In 1899 the drug company Bayer formulated a new drug (acetylsalicylic acid) and called it aspirin, a name which is derived from the old botanical name for meadowsweet, Spiraea ulmaria.
yaaay!!! Christmas does have Pagan roots - but Jesus would have probably been born around the spring time. but the early Christians changed the Pagan "rebirth of the Sun" (Yule) to the "birth of the Son"... and Dean? the Easter Bunny? Eostre's Pagan too. :D
but the lore is cool - human sacrifice for a mild winter. the early peoples probably really did believe this. and that's why there was green grass showing on christmas in Michigan. ;)
little Sammy was a research geek boy even as a kid! and they're both so awesome actors! just like the adult version of Dean and Sam. *smishes the lil!Winchesters too*
Mrs. Carrigan reminds me of the old lady in "Bedtime Stories" in the Hansel & Gretel story. so sweet she's creepy.
ok the ritual part? loved it and hated it. i couldn't watch it, but oh fudge! that was intense! *hee* and leaving the evergreen stakes in the creepy basement? just use the christmas tree! :D
even little!Dean does the tongue thing!!
i really did love that little Sammy was the one that gave Dean the amulet - this is something i knew about before tonight and posted about it as well. but... wow.
but i still have the question, does "Uncle Bobby" know what it was for? seriously, he recognized something about it, and needed to get it to John. but what is it? or is Eric still working on that story, since the amulet itself was actually fished out of a box of props by Jensen in the first place?
awww... Sam did give Dean Christmas... awesome presents they gave each other.... so perfect. and a little too much... rum or whatever it was in the eggnog for Dean, methinks.
and it ended with all three Winchesters on the screen. :D
merry christmas, everyone.
