i had a suggestion to repost this outside of my "Hunted" review, because it was a good analysis of it all. so:
♣ this whole thing is part of what i call "Storytelling." it's a novel... in 22 chapters, and we watch it one chapter at a time. trouble is, unlike a book, we can't flip ahead and read a few sneak peeks... the chapters are sorta written, but they go through revisions, and the final copy might not be exactly what we read last week. there's story arc and character development that we're not aware of until we get to the next chapter. there are new characters we have yet to meet, and old ones who may return.
some people like to read the last chapter of a book to see where it's going and if they like the ending. i can't do that. (i do like to see how many chapters it has though) if i start the book and then glance at the last chapter, i see names and places i don't recognize. because we haven't met them on the journey yet. Supernatural, like a novel, is a journey. we will meet characters we love, like, hate, learn to love, learn to like, learn to hate... and when the last chapter is done, we breathe a sigh of relief this part of the journey is over. or not -- if it's cliffhanger and the sequel won't be published til next year.
this is why Jo, Ash, the Roadhouse, Gordon, John (well, dunno about that), Sarah, Cassie, Ellen... don't bother me. they're all characters in the journey of Dean and Sam Winchester. and we're not driving... we're just along for the ride.
...i'm along for the ride, p(l)otholes and all.
