so......what does Kripke'd mean?

way back 'round S2, when i first heard the term, people in the fandom were using to mean two opposing things. one group of people used it to mean the same thing as Jossed, meaning the idea or theory you put forth was now made NOT canon. another group of people took Kripke'd to mean that Eric pretty much agreed with said idea or theory and now it ( Read more... )

Hmm, I'm not sure if I saw your original query about this, but yes...Kripke'd means that we write it and then the writers make is so. It's happened A LOT in SPN ;)

found it! Questions....." from 2 March 2007.

1. did we ever come to a conclusion as to what "getting Jossed" or "getting Kripked" meant? where Whedon/Kripke either makes your idea canon... or AU?

answers included:
*Heh, I dunno. As the one who asked, I eventually decided that Jossed meant your fanon is fucked, and Kripked meant your fanon has been stolen.
(^^which is correct)

*I think either term can mean either thing... althought I have to agree I've seen more AU cause I got Jossed (and I don't read much fan fic in any of his unis) and more if this looks familar it's cause I got Kripked...
(^^this sounds about right....)

maybe it was "I think either term can mean either thing..." that threw me for a loop. maybe all those years ago, i just misinterpreted it, and then never went back for clarification, becuase all my AUs were always going to be AUs and never canon.

Ah, that explains it. I was just getting into SPN in 2007 (mid-point) so I wouldn't have been able to answer ;) I do find it funny, though, that so much of our fanon has become canon...or at least acknowledged as a fandom tip of the hat.

I've actually always heard it used when the show does something really distressing, like when Castiel went god-mode and we thought he 'died', or when Bobby died. Basically something really dramatic and fucks up your world for a bit.
