Lunar eclipse!

early tuesday morning, most of North America was treated to a total lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice! there was an added treat of the Ursids meteors as well. usually the light from a full moon drowns out the little meteors, but they can be seen when that full moon happens to be blocked by the Earth's shadow. i saw two while we were outside, ( Read more... )

I'm so bummed that we had such heavy cloud cover last night. The lunar eclipse I saw in 2007 (according to the date on the picture - I have no memory) was amazing! Really, a truly incredible thing to see. :)

It was very neat to watch - it was actually the first time, that I can recall, watching an eclipse. Thank you so much for sharing your photos!

Ours started at abot 12:30 and like you said you had to look away and back again to really notice the change. It was so crisp and clear here(FL) that we had an amazing view. It looked like a tiny orange ball once it was covered. We didn't see any meteors though. But then again after being all bundled and freezing outside my 10 year old ran to his room to get under the covers & tripped and busted his face on the metal bedframe. Nasty black eye and a hole clear through his chin into his mouth. Needless to say after 12 stitches we saw the the moon uncovering on our way home.
