The 1951 version with Alistair Sim is my personal favorite. Followed closely by the 1984 version with George C. Scott.

we read the book out loud every year since I was... well as long as I can remember and these are my fav adaptations:

The Muppets Christmas Carol ('light the lamp not the rat!')

Scrooged - it's light and from the 80's but at the same time pritty faithful.

Scrooge - I want to say this was from the ealry 70's it has Albert Finny and Alec Guinness but that said maybe this one and the George C Scott version may be a little heavy for M

you have to remember parts of the stroy are very scary, I mean it touches on homelessness and poverty in a very brutal way. The sceens with the rag man still terify me - but that's kinda the point.

edited to add: I haven't seen the Patric Stewart or the Jim Carry versions.

My favorite is the Mr. McGoo version, but if you want the real deal I'd rec the George C. Scott version.

Edit: Since she's 9 I'd definitely do Mr. McGoo. It would be a nice intro to the story for her.
