we read the book out loud every year since I was... well as long as I can remember and these are my fav adaptations:
The Muppets Christmas Carol ('light the lamp not the rat!')
Scrooged - it's light and from the 80's but at the same time pritty faithful.
Scrooge - I want to say this was from the ealry 70's it has Albert Finny and Alec Guinness but that said maybe this one and the George C Scott version may be a little heavy for M
you have to remember parts of the stroy are very scary, I mean it touches on homelessness and poverty in a very brutal way. The sceens with the rag man still terify me - but that's kinda the point.
edited to add: I haven't seen the Patric Stewart or the Jim Carry versions.

Edit: Since she's 9 I'd definitely do Mr. McGoo. It would be a nice intro to the story for her.
