SN Ep! ~ "Family Matters" (6x07)
so, Sam hasn't slept since he came back. what does he do at night? watch reruns of Law & Order on TNT? lol.
So Dean's all suspicious of Sam as Castiel checks him over - and just like Castiel checked the marker on the kid's soul in 6x03, he sticks his hand inside Sam... and finds nothing. he can't find Sam's soul.
Castiel suggests when Sam was brought back, it was without is soul, which is probably in Lucifer's cage, with Lucifer and Michael.
during all this, Sam's tied to the chair in the motel room, and after Dean says he won't untie him, Sam just wiggles around... and gets out of the ropes. huh.
so we need to figure out who's got Sam's soul... he hasn't a clue. 'cept one - the Campbells.
turns out, Samuel has a soul.
Sam: whoever dragged me out - left a piece behind.
Samuel says he thought something was off... and while he had a good hunter, there were sometimes Samuel was a little scared of Sam.
Castiel says he'll be back for Dean and Sam - their problems come first, even though he's in the middle of a civil war in heaven.
Samuel's a little hesitant letting Dean in on the hunt. Dean thinks it's cause Samuel doesn't trust him. Samuel says it's cause he doesn't know Dean. but Dean says he trust Samuel on this one.
and the moment they're outside, Dean tells Sam he doesn't trust Samuel.
so Dean and Gwen get to stay in the back to bring up the rear and get any stragglers. Gwen beheads a vamp, but Dean hears something, and he's off to check it out, despite Gwen's protests. guess Dean isn't that rusty, right?
Dean sees the Campbells and Sam leading someone with a bag over his head into the van. Dean sees the man's fingernails, and realises it's the Alpha vamp from his creepy hallucinations. when the Campbells come back to Dean and Gwen, Samuel says that's one Alpha down. Dean wants to know where it is, to pay his last respects. Samuel lies and says it's already on the pyre. huh.
afterwards, Dean and Sam are on their way ... somewhere... and Dean just stops the car to confront Sam that he saw Sam with the Campbells taking the Alpha out to the van. Sam says Dean wasn't supposed to know about that, but eventually tells Dean that Samuel catches monsters, takes them somewhere to question them. it was Sam's idea not to tell Dean about it, since Dean shoots first and asks questions later.
Dean gets all indigent about that, and Dean's trying to explain to Sam what's going on, that Sam doesn't "see" stuff, and his lack of soul is messing him up. he says Sam can stay with him - as long as he tells Dean everything, since Sam can't tell what's what - or go back to Samuel.
so Sam goes to Samuel and says Dean's gone, and he wants "in" on the interrogations. Samuel says that until Sam gets his soul back to just keep doing what he's been doing. after he leaves, we see him tinkering with some cell phones before getting back in the impala.
turns out that Sam got the GPS coordinates as to where the warehouse is they're keeping all the monsters. so we know he has an Alpha vamp... does he still have the d'jinn from 6x01? who else does he have in there?
Dean and Sam overhear Samuel asking the Alpha where something is and how do they find it. the Alpha doesn't give Samuel the answer he wants, and Samuel stalks off. and that's when the Alpha calls out to Dean and Sam, asking if they're going to hide all night.
they're a little reluctant at first, but they do approach, and the Alpha calls Dean by his name - after all, he was the Alpha's child for a time. the Alpha turns to Sam, and says Sam smells cold, and that he doesn't have a soul. (so if the Alpha could just smell it, why did we need Castiel to feel around for the (lack of) soul? i'm not going to even go there.)
so the Alpha tells Dean and Sam that if you have a soul, you die, you either go up or down, but where do his kind go? Purgatory. Dean's surprised Purgatory is a real place. that's what Samuel's trying to find out the answer to.
the Alpha says Samuel doesn't care, he does what he's told. oh, i love Dean's puppet imagery.
and speak of the devil....
smart alpha vamp... scratching the wrist bands with those nails of his until the bands are breakable (for a vamp).... and he's outta here. jaws in a fishbowl, indeed.
and the search for the Alpha is on. Samuel wants to capture him again, but Dean says no way... it'll kill them, so if they have a shot, take it.
it's the Alpha vs Sam... and the Alpha's taken down by Christian... with black eyes. and Crowley!!
so, Crowley's the one looking for Purgatory. and Dean and Sam are working for Crowley, huh. Crowley's keeping Samuel around because he knows things. did Crowley bring back Sam and Samuel and just forget to tell us this bit before?
huh, it's good to be the King of Hell, eh Crowley? there goes my Balthazar theory. but...Crowley, eh?
Crowley says to bring him monsters to interrogate, and find the location of purgatory.
Samuel has his reasons for working with Crowley, but he's not sharing at the moment. Sam's actually....pissed that Samuel sold them out, but Dean tells him to let it go.
Sam's thinking they have to go with hunting the Campbells and pacify Crowley... just for a time. then give Crowley what's coming to him.
Sam: Are you with me Dean?
