(yes, that was vague on purpose. no spoilers outside a cut. but i hope to the gods there's spoilers in the comments asking me about that

That's the impression that I got from that scene, too. He's emotionally detached from everything. Sam is repressing big time; whether or not that's on purpose so he won't have to cope with what happened RE: Lucifer or if it's because something is seriously wrong with him, I don't know. But that was a major sign that there was something going on with Sam from the writers, for sure. If Sam needed to get some tail, he could have. Sure, he's not as good with words as Dean is, but he's still damn good looking and if he came walking up to me I know I wouldn't have turned him down, haha.

yeah, i don't know why he's detached too... could be that he's been RoboSam (to borrow a phrase) for a year, he's lost that emotion.

and i wouldn't turn him down either. heh.

Honestly, I didn't even give a thought to who Sam was porking and whether or not she was hired for that purpose. It sounds totally shallow but I didn't get past his abs to even look at her. XP However, I get that - no attachments whatsoever. No kissing on the lips - it's too personal. Er, you know what I mean.

I thought it was either that, or that he wasn't paying for sex at all. It was never actually said that sex was what was happening, there was no actual sexual innuendo at all.

I agree with you that if Sam was paying for sex then yes, that's exactly what happened (the emotional separation, etc) but I'm just not so sure. He could have been paying for something else. Even blood, maybe.

that's true, they didn't say it was sex. but with money changing hands and what was implied, gave me the idea that it was sex.

Oh, I certainly think that sex is what was implied.

But it's just a little theory I have (probably totally wrong). Maybe, just maybe, Lucifer is still in there, and Sam is having to drink demon blood (or something) to keep him down and under control. I mean, we thought Ruby was just a one-night-stand when we met her in Lazarus Rising, too.

(honestly, i knew "Kristy" was Ruby in 4x01, and i believe i might have know she was going to be around for at least a few episodes in S4. just didn't know about the betrayal part at the end....)

I totally agree with you on Sam... like you said Sam really doesn't need to pay to have sex, but I get the feeling he has lost the excitement to life... he just didn't feel like having to go go a bar an stablish any type of personal contact with anyone just so he could have sex but preferred to pay for it and make it as impersonal and strictly physical as he could.

That's what I figured too. He's just looking to get off, not for anyone who might expect anything from him. He's looking for less than casual, more like impersonal. He's not as in touch with his emotions right now, but he still has psychical needs.
