As I See It. Your Mileage Will Vary.

last night i was talking to aphrodite33 about liking everything, including all the characters, about all my shows. and after some comments i got on my Vampire Diaries post, i thought this was a good time to post this.

Do i *like* all the characters? not really. take the example i told aphrodite33. no, i don't like Gordon Walker (Supernatural, S2 & S3)as a person. we're not going to be BFFs anytime soon.

but i like him for what he brought to the plot: there are other hunters out there, and not all of them "save people" like Dean and Sam. that there are hunters out there that might not like the Winchesters (John was just that kinda person), that there are hunters who might think that it's Sam they should be hunting too. and it laid the groundwork for S5 where the hunters are looking for Sam since he's the one who let Lucifer out at the end of S4.

so, no, i don't like Gordon Walker the Person. i liked Gordon Walker the Plot Device. and all the other Plot Devices that every show uses. did i like Ben Linus (Lost)? no, not really as the Person. i liked Ben Linus the Plot Device. do i like Bonnie Bennett (the Vampire Diaries)? not really all that much. (i like book!Bonnie McCullough more than tv!Bonnie.) but i do like Bonnie Bennett the Plot Device.

am i glad/happy/enjoy the show more when these characters don't appear? i'm not sure i can actually answer that, since my tv-watching background seems to be alot of ensemble and A-Plot/B-Plot shows, i don't really notice when someone's not there. and as always, your mileage will vary.
