A Plea to Hoosier Drinkers

There is an organized movement here in Indiana to try to bring Indiana alcohol laws kicking and screaming into the 21st century…actually even the 20th would be preferable. Having lived in Georgia for the last 24 years, not getting alcohol on Sunday is such a habit that I don't even notice any more. When I go to other states I forget you can buy it on Sunday.

Cold beer in a grocery would be nice, but I suspect what it would do is replace the actually-beer section with a cooler full of chilled Bud-et-al. I'm not so sure that would help me much.

If legislation gets introduced I'll write my reps to support it, but right now I'm using my legislative karma on other things *grin*

Ah...but it's the principle of it all. I don't drink much, live 40 yards from a liquor store where I can buy things cold (and the have good stuff cold), and would never buy a Bud for a friend.

But I think people should have the right to buy cold swill at a grocery store if that's what they choose. And they shouldn't have to check the calender to see what day of the week it is to buy.

Of course the hotel and restaurant lobby will reamain strongly against this. They have been one of the driving forces of keeping Indiana staus quo.
