St. Luke's Catholic Church in Barton is a nondescript brown brick building with an underground basement and a severely slanted triangle roof. The orange and yellow leaves dropping from the trees on this brisk late autumn day skittled down its shingles and into piles on the grass, a fading green in the early light of morning.

I'm glad you got this opportunity, and I hope that you can at least have Some peace of mind knowing he is with a good family and is well loved. I'm sure it doesn't lessen the pain...but it has to be some sort of comfort...
And at least you got to share the moment with Mulder. I think you both needed this. I can't imagine which would be harder: Seeing your son and knowing he is safe and loved with others, or seeing your son and knowing how much YOU Should get to be the one to keep him safe and loved.
My heart breaks for you guys...but if it helps...I think he recognized you.

I know I've already said it once, but I'm hoping that this will give you some closure, and that you can move on with your lives together. Stick together....you both need each other to lean on now.
I know its hard, but at least he is in good hands, and not with adoptive parents who don't care for him. You didn't fail him, I hope you know that.
